Loving it so far - it's a good balance of rich and dark tone when I need it, but the option to cut through and get brighter and more focused when I need it.
Excellent performance for my King 3B+
Incredible experience! Very comfortable!
Having previously purchased the Alessi 60 SOLO to use with my Conn 8H large bore trombone, I wanted a small shank mouthpiece to use with my King 3B. The Laskey Gilkes Signature fits the bill! In the first week after receiving the mouthpiece I have used it on a big band gig, a brass quintet concert and a brass band rehearsal, finding it great in all three settings. I love the sound and the level of comfort the 53MG provides. This mouthpiece certainly works for me!

This replaces a Denis Wick 5BS for my King 3B small shank tenor trombone, which I use mostly for jazz. Very difficult to find small shank mouthpieces these days, but this one is a great match. Slightly more resistant but also way more expressive and easier to control tonality and timbre. I used to only buy gold mouthpieces as I thought I had a sensitivity to silver, but as gold prices have more than doubled, I took a chance on silver recently and do not seem to be having any issues even with longer playing sessions. This mouthpiece is very comfortable to play. I have a small mouth so was concerned, but it is perfect!

I was looking for a modern, more efficient 6 and 1/2AL to use in my .525 Shires. The Laskey MG fit the bill perfectly. Very smooth, nice sound, comfortable rim.
It has been a great upgrade so far. I have been enjoying then flexibility and stability going through the partials. My range is much more stable and I have much more to explore using this mouthpiece. Thanks Laskey and Marshal Gilkes for this great design!

I play a Shires Davis plus small bore for jazz and small ensemble work and an Edwards large bore for orchestra. I was concerned about switching off mouthpieces for the two horns so I had been playing the same cup for both. Felt great but just a tad too big and dark for jazz. The Gilkes mouthpiece slots in perfectly for me. Very comfortable rim and I really prefer the mass/weight that this gives me.
Perfectly fits my old Selmer Bolero, and I love the weight and cup, adding an element of warmth to my sound.
Great mouthpiece. For me, the extra room helps my sound and allows for more flexibility.
This mouthpiece feels so different than most I have tried. I love the sound and the flexibility. It does take more effort to play and that extra effort seems to be strengthening my embouchure. Ive been playing a Warburton 7, so the Gilkes mouthpiece is larger and more open. I have yet to test it out on lead bone parts in a big band, so I don't have a final verdict.

Still testing the mouthpiece. So far the mid range is very good with the sound I have been trying to create. I am experiencing some additional resistance in the upper range when compared to my Griego. Lower range is about the same. I will continue to work on the upper range. Still not sure yet.
Great overall performance. Provides smooth and reliable playing in all registers.
Nice color in the sound, but the rim was too radically rounded and dissimilar from my 57MD. Bb and the C above the tenor clef staff were under pitch. I'll wait for the re-release of the 54 small shank.

Very comfortable. Primarily, I play bass bone and large bore tenor with occasional work on pea shooter. I can now comfortably switch between the three horns.

I am an intermediate level player. In comparison with my previos king 28 mouthpiece, with my king 3b horn, This mouthpiece made my playing much easier and more accurate, resulting in a free, smooth and joyful result. Specifically, the mid and lowest ranges feels and sounds much more accurate. The highest range sounds clearer and easy going, with less effort to produce a clear sound. Purchase process was smooth, internationally shipped using FedEx, and arrived within few days. I am really pleased with the mouthpiece and highly recommend it.
From the second I placed the mouthpiece on my lips, it was so responsive. In all registers it felt comfortable, everything was quick and easy and clear. It was everything I could have asked for. I ordered from Ireland and in less than 3 days I had it on my doorstep. Amazing service and can’t wait to do business again.
I haven't got to test it out much, but just the first note I could clearly tell it was better than my previous mouthpiece. It had alot more core and warmth to it which I liked a lot and I look forward to see what more it has to offer.

This Laskey 53MG feels great! The rim is so comfortable, actually the whole mouthpiece feels very comfortable. Great response and really nice sound. I’ve played Bach 6 1/2 A for 55 years and this feels like a very natural and easy transition. Great mouthpiece! I love it! Keith O’Quinn NYC
Amazing! The highs are so easy to play, low range is a bit tricky. I’m sure with a little more play time on it my embodies will adjust but so far I’m excited to see what I can do with this new mouthpiece!
I am older and not a professional player. I currently play a Dennis Wick 6BS on trombone and euphonium in concert bands, a big band and horn section. The problem for me was the higher notes were a little thin in sound especially on the euphonium. If I changed MP’s I could get a better high range sound but then the lower notes suffered. So far the Gilkes’s MP has a brighter tone and sounds much better in all ranges. The MP is very comfortable and easy to play. I’ve used this MP now for 10 days at various concerts and rehearsals and it just continue’s to grow on me. This is now my new MP.

A very fine mouthpiece with a warm and rich sound especially in low and middle register. Comfortable rim for long sessions without feeling tired. Great craftsmanship in material and design! The best made from the best!
Marshall Gilkes is one of my trombone heroes and that encouraged me to buy the mouthpiece. I love the soft and mellow sound but unfortunately I didn't find what I was looking for and I think it's because of the style of music in which I play the most, which is Salsa and Latin Jazz and although it always requires me to project a mellow sound, it must also be bright and aggressive.
