Laskey Protégé Horn Mouthpieces were developed to meet the needs of beginning and emerging horn players, providing a comfortable and stable foundation on which to perfect their embouchure. With a slightly oversized rim, allowing young artists to fit more inside the cup, the cup-to-throat ratio of this mouthpiece supports consistent breath flow and balanced flexibility throughout the instrument's ranges. Crafted from 360 free-machining brass, the Laskey Protegé Horn Mouthpiece is finished with a two-tone buffing treatment that polishes the rim for comfort and flexibility, while leaving the body of the mouthpiece with a satin look and feel. Plated with a triple-strike process of copper, silver and bright silver, the Protégé is ready for centre stage.

I really liked the mouthpiece, it has the perfect measurements for my embouchure.
The cup is neither too shallow nor too deep, and the rim has a very comfortable diameter it is very comfortable on the lips and the price is very affordable for everyone. I recommend Laskey products to everyone!
This product is great! As a horn player and POC with fuller lips, I find this mouthpiece very comfortable for playing. This mouthpiece is great quality, and it is affordable. I recommend the Protégé series to any students interested in buying a comfortable, affordable mouthpiece.
I like it a lot. It allows me to play efficiently and as I’ve been adjusting to it it’s been simple. Works well for me and allows me to hit the higher register better.
The Protege was a good surprise, it feels very free blowing with very good resonance in all registers. It has a very small resistance in the high register but it can be managed with good air use. The slurs are very clean but i would like a more crispy articulation in general. I will definitely migrate to Laskey mouthpieces.
My colleague and I have both tested the Laskey Protégé and have nothing but nice things to say about it! I love the Protégé for its overall/all-around nature, making it an excellent second mouthpiece after playing something that was already in the case. For those students who are taking their studies to the next level, it's a great mouthpiece choice with a price that really makes it stand out in a sea of every increasingly-priced equipment.
This mouthpiece is everything I've been looking for to put students on. The larger inner diameter of 17.75 is way more suitable than anything closer or below 17mm. The cup is a middle-of-the-road size which produces good response and sound. Most of all, as prices for horn equipment skyrocket, this price point is far more accessible for the students and families I interact with.
This mouthpiece went far beyond my expectations. I have played Laskey Mouthpieces since 2002, mainly the G and J Cups. The protege is as good if not better than most of the Laskey’s I own, and currently I have well over a dozen. I highly recommend this mouthpiece for any player wanting to have that Laskey feel and sound in any horn. I should also mention that the price is unbelievable for mouthpiece of this quality.
I received my mouthpiece and am blown away. It plays exceptionally well and feels very comfortable. Since it's recommended for beginners, whose abilities are hindered by lack of experience, I think it's important to give them a mouthpiece that will help them be very successful with the things they attempt to achieve in the first year.
The Laskey Protégé is a Laskey Lover’s Beginner Mouthpiece. The rim has the traditional Laskey contour with a defined edge giving you crisp articulations. The rim size is right in the middle of the road so that young players can grow with the mouthpiece for several years. The bore, cup, and body contour provide a clear and versatile tone. The Protégé offers the signature Laskey sound to young beginners at an affordable price.
I am blown away by the quality of Laskey's Protégé beginning horn mouthpiece! It features a larger inner diameter (17.75) giving students' lips more room to vibrate, great flexibility across the range, a cushioning rim, and a full, resonant tone - all at a more affordable price point. When advanced students make the upgrade to a professional mouthpiece, moving to Laskey's G line will be an easy transition. This will be my go to recommendation for every beginning and intermediate student in my studio!
