About Chris Olka
Chris Olka is one of the most versatile tuba players of his generation: an orchestral powerhouse, boundary-pushing soloist, and digital pioneer for the instrument.
He has held principal and section chairs with the Cincinnati Symphony, Pops, Opera, and Ballet, as well as the Seattle Symphony and Opera, and has appeared as Guest Principal Tuba with the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and National Orchestra of Spain. He was also Principal Tuba for Gerard Schwarz's All-Star Orchestra and Seiji Ozawa's Saito Kinen Festival Orchestra.
An active chamber musician and advocate of solo tuba literature, Chris has performed recitals and masterclasses around the world, alongside numerous solo appearances with orchestras, brass bands, and wind ensembles, as well as performances with dixieland bands and a stint as a staff musician at Walt Disney World. His world premiere of the Samuel Jones Concerto for Tuba, recorded with the Seattle Symphony, can be heard on the Naxos label.
His teachers include Warren Deck, Joe Alessi, Abe Torchinsky, and Don Harwood.
